Call for Artists

Deadline: 28November 2008
Website: www.wildworks.biz

Wildworks is looking for emerging artists to work in an arts in the community project taking place from January 15 to February 7 2009.

Wildworks is an international theatre company based in Cornwall which produces unique landscape theatre and community projects.

Wildworks has been commissioned through an exciting new arts programme called FEAST to lead an ambitious art in the community project in a select few towns across Cornwall.

Each town project will be lead by a small team of experienced WILDWORKS practitioners. Working directly with members of the community we intend to gather memories, hopes and dreams for the future and, in response to this, create a series of interactive installations that will be open to the public, in February 2009. The theme of ‘Travel Agencies’ provides the opportunity to ‘travel’ into the past, the future, the imagination…

We are looking for emerging artists across Cornwall, who have very good making skills, are interested in or have experience in working across art-forms and a strong interest in working with communities.

The selected candidates will work under the guidance of experienced WILDWORKS artists.  We would expect the selected artists to:

Be enthusiastic and sensitive when talking to members of the community.

Contribute ideas to the overall project.

Contribute to the making of the installation.

Be capable of working effectively both as individuals and as members of a small team.

Where possible we will be selecting artists who are local to the area in which the project is located.  Project locations are: Liskeard, Bude, Wadebridge, St Austell, Penryn, Hayle and St Just.

The fee for the project is £1,000. You will be expected to work for a minimum of 13 days. In addition you will be expected to attend a training and CPD workshop on 15th and 16th of December, led by Wildworks, which will be an exciting opportunity to explore Wildworks methodologies and meet other artists.

Please send a letter of interest, a full CV and (if you have them) up to 5 images of your work, either on disk or as a hard copy to The Works, Crusader House, Newham Road, Truro TR1 2DP

Applicants will be shortlisted for interview, which will take place on 4th Dec 2008.

FEAST is funded by Arts Council England South West and led by Cornwall County Council’s Creative Unit.

Contact Email: craig.morrow@thebrewhouse.net

Period of Engagement: 17.5 days between end of December 2008 and March 2009 (timescales of overseeing the construction may depend on planning consents)

Fee: £3,500
