The sixth BUILD resident artist to start this January is recent graduate of University College Falmouth, Rebecca Griffiths. Rebecca's sculptural work, preoccupied with the interplay of material, design and architectural form are suggestive of human efforts to model, control and comprehend the environment. Her interest in the process of mapping, measuring and dissecting form using flat patter templates question the value of these objects as a traditional drawing mechanism to help navigate us in the contemporary world, and as a representation of substitution and artificiality. Rebecca would like to use the BUILD residency to bring certain ideas into actuality and extend her current line of enquiry to develop her practice further. The BUILD spring public exhibition will be open from 5 May - 14 May 2009 at The Proctor Gallery, Cornwall College Camborne. To follow Griffith's project blog on the a-n website click below.
