December Newsletter 2004

Dear Arts Practitioner,

With Christmas looming around the corner we thought we would re-cap on 2004 and let you have information on what we plan to deliver in the New Year.

2004 has been a successful year for Creative Skills as we have secured funding to continue through to December 2006 offering the activities which have been running throughout 2004; Development Needs Analysis, Business Needs Analysis, Seminar Programme & Skills Development Fund.

Creative Skills now also has an e-bulletin which is sent out fortnightly with lots of interesting information which does not always go into the paper newsletters, as they are date-restricted items. If you do not yet receive this currently and would like to please email us, so we can add you to the list. Alternatively, if you would like to advertise an event then please submit it to admin@creativeskills.org.uk in a text only format, as we are unable to send out images or attachments.

SEMINAR PROGRAMME - the fee for all seminars is £10

* QUARK Intermediate
Monday 14th February 2005
9.30am to 4.30pm, Cornwall College, Pool
Charge: £10

The QuarkXpress Intermediate course follows on from the introductory course we ran back in October 2004 taking you through the next stage of producing an electronic print-ready document. As the course is intermediate, we do require attendees to have a basic knowledge of the programme and good knowledge of how to use a computer. The course will cover the following criteria:

- document structure, grid design
- text management and heading/subheading/caption style
- colour and image control
- production formats

We found that it would be more beneficial if practitioners brought their own material to work on e.g. Photoshop images and an idea of the publicity material you would like to produce.

Please note that practitioners who attended the introductory course will be given priority for places.

* BASIC WEBSITE DESIGN Tuesday 15th February 2005
9.30am to 4.30pm, Cornwall College, Pool
Charge: £10

As this course proved popular in 2004 we will be running it again.

This course will be most beneficial to practitioners who need to promote their work via the web and want to have a go themselves; the course is aimed at practitioners with little or no experience of doing so. If you are interested in attending this course please can you let us know the programme that you will be using to produce your website - either Photoshop, Flash or Dreamweaver. We do require that attendees have good knowledge of how to use a computer.

Please bring along any ideas and images you have to put together your own website.

The course will cover the following elements of designing your own website:

- What makes a good website
- Navigation within a website
- Using Photoshop
- Using Dreamweaver

At the end of the course you should be able to carry out the following:

- Have the ability to analyse and evaluate various websites
- Produce a navigation map using word
- Optimise images using Photoshop/Imageready
- Construct a basic website in Dreamweaver

Please note that people from last year's waiting list will be given priority when allocating places on this course.

* INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOSHOP
Wednesday 16th February 2005
9.30am to 4.30pm, Cornwall College, Pool

This Photoshop course will introduce those with little or no knowledge of the programme to:

- the image adjustment facility
- the photoshop basic tools
- basic layer usage and filter application

The course does require that you have a good knowledge of how to use a computer.
