Creative Partnerships ran three ‘gatherings for artists’ in December for people who are working within the education sector and new to Creative Partnerships. The Creative Gatherings are useful to find out all about the Creative Partnerships ethos and how to work with Schools. Creative Partnerships is committed to supporting and building relationships between the education and creative/ cultural sector, which is why they will be continuing to hold these sessions regularly in a bid to develop understanding and collaboration between the two sectors.
Their next session will be on:
Tuesday May 3rd 6pm Hall for Cornwall, Truro
Creative Gathering - for practitioners new to Creative Partnerships
This event is for creative practitioners of every discipline to network, debate and explore ideas together about working within the education sector. There will be opportunities to find out more about how CP engages with schools and the creative sector and how you can be part of the wider agenda around embedding creativity within schools.
Learning Labs are a new pilot scheme that has evolved out of the Creative Gatherings.
The two Learning Lab sessions detailed below have been developed BY practitioners (Amanda Pickering and Denzil Monk) FOR practitioners, in collaboration with Creative Partnerships and Creative Skills. These two evenings again are aimed towards creative practitioners working within the education sector. The first evening is targeted at would-be and new practitioners and looks at practicalities and how to engage with schools. The second is targeted at those who are experienced in schools-work who wish to share knowledge and progress their practice.
Much of the content of both of these sessions will come from you, the practitioners.
Learning Lab One: Foot in the Door
Wednesday 18th May 6pm – 9pm
Arts Club, Chapel Street, Penzance
The session will continue by sharing hopes, fears and experiences of working as a creative practitioner in an educational setting and will look at what you need to know about working in schools. It will cover practical issues such as first contact, getting a booking and resources that are available to you. It is aimed at would-be and new practitioners who wish to look at how to engage with schools. Please note that the first hour of this session will be an introduction/ discussion for new practitioners to Creative Partnerships and other local associated support and development agencies and will follow the format of the gathering in Truro as detailed above. There will be the opportunity for questions/answers/ discussion with local educators and experienced practitioners. Workers from Creative Partnerships and Creative Skills will also be on hand.
A buffet will be provided.
Learning Lab Two: Sustaining and Developing
Wednesday 1st June 6pm – 9pm
Arts Club, Chapel Street, Penzance
This evening is targeted at those who have experience of working in schools and who wish to share and progress their own practice.
This session will provide the opportunity to meet and network; share hopes and fears; good practice - and disasters! Within the evening we will look at assessing and working on your own strengths and weaknesses as a practitioner, balancing personal creativity with the needs of the educational system, and exploring the difficulties of working in education. We’ll then move on to identify strategies to address the difficulties, exploring the resources available to enable you to sustain and develop relationships with schools in a way that allows growth and creativity for all parties involved. We also hope to cover collaborations between practitioners, and developing practical and useful support networks.
Again, a team of experienced practitioners, educators and staff from Creative Skills and Creative Partnerships will be on hand to support the conversations.
A buffet will be provided.
To book any of these sessions – Creative Gatherings and/or Learning Labs - please contact Helen Reynolds at Creative Partnerships on hreynolds@cornwall.gov.uk or 01872 275187
