THE CURRENCY OF CONTEMPORARY ART 17 NOVEMBER 2007 Speakers Soraya Rodriguez, director of Zoo Art Fair. Zoo Art fair identifies and supports young commercial and non-commercial art organisations on an international platform. It includes galleries, project spaces, artist collectives, curatorial groups and publications. Louisa Buck, writer and broadcaster on contemporary art. Her work includes Market Matters: The Dynamics of the Contemporary Art Market (Arts Council England 2004). She was a judge for the 2005 Turner Prize. Workplace Gallery, a commercial gallery run by artists.Based in Gateshead, UK, they represent a growing portfolio of emerging and established artists through curatorial projects, the gallery programme and art fairs. Chair Virginia Button, independent writer and curator, based in Cornwall since 2001. She previously worked at Tate for ten years, curating the Turner Prize (1993-8). The presentations from speakers in the morning session will be followed by a panel discussion. After lunch you are invited to stay for a faciliated discussion amongst participants. The new advisory group for the Cornwall Visual Arts Forum has now been reformed to help put in place events for the next two years. It is now made up of eight members, a mix of artists, gallerists, publicly funded spaces and educationalists. Some members have generously stayed on to offer their expertise and support to be joined by our new advisory members, Joseph Clarke from Goldfish Gallery, Claire Lloyd from Newlyn Gallery, Patrick Lowry artist and Cornwall College representative and finally artist Lucy Willow. Over the next few months they will get together to come up with a plan for the next event scheduled for June 2008.
