Claire Armitage talks about how she used Practice Devlelopment Planning

Falling Leaf Dress by Claire Armitage

The development needs analysis meeting I had was an invaluable opportunity to reflect back upon my professional practice to review the things I had achieved, how my work was changing, and how best to move forward.

When I had my meeting I had recently completed my MA in Textile Design at University College Falmouth.  I wanted to find a way to balance pushing the collection of dresses I had designed for my MA with maintaining my existing work as a costume designer and lecturer at University College Falmouth.  The meeting highlighted the importance of creating a website about my work in time for an article about my dresses featured in the spring issue of Brides In Cornwall Magazine.  It also clarified the need for me to find a costume design assistant for when I’m working on large-scale projects.  Jane also offered practical advice and support about how to achieve the needs identified during the meeting, such as recommending web designers and putting an advert for a costume assistant on network Cornwall.  The meeting has helped me to move forward with my work and gain a clearer understanding of my needs and priorities.
